The Department of Pharmacology, PSG IMS & R is affiliated to The TN Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai, It support teaching activities of 250 MBBS students per year; and since 2009, PG Pharmacology with 2 Post Graduate students intake per year. 

This department supports various activities of administration, therapeutic audit committee, bioethics and research, Therapeutic audit, Medical education, Molecular medicine and therapeutics, animal and human ethics committees, National TB eradication program core committee, Antimicrobial stewardship program, promoting quality patients care based on ethical principles and PSG Hospital NABH quality care department activities. It is recognized of one of the top departments in research for promoting UG both ICMR and non ICMR projects and PG research activities at PSG IMS&R.  This department so for completed six academic clinical trial  under CTRI approval.

Apart from the teaching, this department has good infrastructure for research including chemical toxicology lab, experimental pharmacology lab, CAL, PG Research lab with CNS and CVS research facilities.

PSG IMSR AMC supports NCC – PvPI activities more than 20 years, and in 2024, it received its recognition as the top 3^rd position in reporting ADR under the category AMC without PV associates.

This department constantly encourages students’ discipline, adherence to regular IA and support students with TOP 10 Academic Awards, Academic Excellence Award, II MBBS pharmacology Research Award, Gold medal for Overall excellence in Pharmacology including Research and competitive Annual Quiz program with assessment. Many Post graduates recruited in top position in Pharma companies and many of them recruited in TN government service.  This department is under the process of recognition as an approved center for PhD program.
